"Our customers are looking for a comprehensive, enterprise-class solution to empower workers in a world where the proliferation of devices and consumer cloud services have changed user expectations, while putting IT security and governance at risk," said VMware's Boaz Chalamish. The VMware Horizon Suite aims to allow IT control while allowing access.

Making the Case for BYOD. If you’re just beginning to develop your BYOD strategy or already have an established edict in place, this Forrester white paper which includes a list of benefits and costs associated with deploying a BYOD program, can serve as a guide or a checkpoint for successful implementation. VMware just rolled out a new platform aimed at mobile Relevant Products/Services workers. VMware Horizon Suite connects end users to their data Relevant Products/Services, applications and desktops on any device without sacrificing IT security and control.

With updates to VMware Horizon View and VMware Horizon Mirage, as well as a new product, VMware Horizon Workspace, the VMware Horizon Suite works to help IT organizations deliver a secure Relevant Products/Services, easy-to-manage virtual Relevant Products/Services workspace with a consistent experience across devices.

"Our customers are looking for a comprehensive, enterprise Relevant Products/Services-class solution to empower workers in a world where the proliferation of devices and consumer cloud Relevant Products/Services services have changed user expectations, while putting IT security and governance at risk," said Boaz Chalamish, senior vice president and general manager of End-User Computing at VMware. Chalamish said the new product line aims to help customers "accelerate their journeys from the PC Relevant Products/Services era to the multi-device era."

Remote Work Styles Rising

According to Forrester Relevant Products/Services Research, the use of personal devices outside of IT control is alarming: 67 percent of employees are using personally selected smartphones and 46 percent are using personally selected laptops. None of them were approved or issued by the company that employs them.

VMware surveys have found that 83 percent of IT administrators want to prevent the use of consumer online storage and collaboration Relevant Products/Services applications. The VMware Horizon Suite is designed to solve the security and governance challenges these consumer-ready applications and devices bring to enterprises. The VMware Horizon Suite brings together the company's desktop virtualization Relevant Products/Services solution and technologies. Built from the ground up to support a mobile, collaborative workforce Relevant Products/Services, the Horizon Suite brings Project Octopus, Project AppBlast, Project AppShift, VMware ThinApp, VMware Horizon Application Manager and VMware Horizon Mobile into a single, unified solution.

"Instead of treating remote Relevant Products/Services work styles as an exception, success at Jaguar Land Rover will mean designing systems and policies assuming that everyone is mobile, using multiple personal devices connecting over both local and global networks," said Gordon McMullan, acting chief technology officer at Jaguar Land Rover Automotive. "VMware's Horizon Suite is at the heart of this capability. This will dramatically improve collaboration and productivity of our global workforce." (continued...)

The Forrester data shows why there's so much buzz about BYOD. This will only continue to grow, driven in part by the explosion of the variety and availability of mobile devices.

BYOD means challenges for IT staff - security of corporate data and networks, management and support of a wide range of devices, etc. That's why so many IT vendors like VMware are adding BYOD solutions to their product portfolios.

There are many approaches to managing BYOD. This white paper - "BYOD is Here to Stay, But Organizations Must Adapt" - discusses some of these approaches:
