Focus on Security in New Dell Products, Upgrades
tools and enhancements Thursday aimed at enabling businesses of all sizes to protect their sensitive corporate data while still allowing employees to access that data whenever they want, wherever they are, using any device.
These include enhanced security features for Dell's Data Protection Cloud Edition with Dropbox for Business, new products within its commercial PC portfolio, and what the company claims is the first commercially available product to achieve the U.S. government's FIPS-140 Level 3 certified commercial PCs with Hardware Crypto Accelerator.
Dell's focus on security stems from the fact that "security is no longer solely the concern of large enterprises. Small, medium and mid-market organizations also are placing a significant focus on their cyber security infrastructures," said Brett Hansen, executive director of Client Solutions Software at Dell.
Personal, Work Data Separated
The initial integration of Dell's Data Protection Cloud Edition into Dropbox for Business has also been enhanced. The updates improve functionality for employees across a range of mobile operating systems, allow businesses to remotely wipe employees' Dropbox accounts and enable one-click sharing for employees while maintaining file-level encryption.
Dell's Data Protection Cloud Edition lets users access both their personal accounts and their business accounts within any Dropbox application, encrypting only sensitive company data, not personal files. That ensures that company files are managed and secured and users can still get their work done. Dell's Data Protection Cloud Edition with Dropbox for Business with the new capabilities is available beginning Tuesday.
OptiPlex 9030 All-in-One
The "sleek" OptiPlex 9030 All-in-One is being touted as the industry's most secure PC. According to Dell, the device provides comprehensive encryption, advanced authentication and malware prevention from a single source.
The PC's other security features include single sign-on and authentication management as well as an additional layer of data protection with secure credential storage via the Trusted Platform Module. The OptiPlex 9030 All-in-One also comes with lock-slot support, a lockable port cover and chassis intrusion detection for physical security. Dell's 23-inch OptiPlex 9030 is priced at $899.
Wyse Cloud Connect Updated
Dell also has rolled out the first updates to its Wyse Cloud Connect personal cloud access device, which enables enterprise-level security and manageability in a device that's slightly larger than a USB stick. Dell is now offering businesses a new mobility option to enable users to be more productive while still allowing IT to maintain control over corporate data.
Additionally, the company said that it has achieved the highest FIPS (Federal Information Processing Standards) for system disk encryption, as its Hardware Crypto Accelerator has achieved FIPS 140-2 Level 3 certification . Level 3 lets companies go beyond detection, automatically addressing and remedying a hack attempt. Dell said it is the only vendor to have achieved this level of certification for a commercially available system-disk encryption solution.
Dell's Data Protection Hardware Crypto Accelerator converts the hard drive of select Dell Latitude notebooks, OptiPlex desktops and Precision workstations into fast (3 gigabits per second), self-encrypting, tamper-resistant devices, eliminating the need for separate self-encrypting drives.
